Cadiz – Home to some of Spain’s finest golf and gastronomy
Cadiz is the southernmost province on the Iberian Peninsula and is only 14km from Africa. It borders the provinces of Seville and Huelva in the north, the province of Malaga to the east, the Atlantic Ocean in the southeast, the Mediterranean Sea in the southwest, and the Strait of Gibraltar and the British colony of Gibraltar in the south.
Rich in history the Phoenicians, Greeks and Romans have all held sway in this land with each leaving behind a little of their presence with their departure. Christopher Columbus sailed from here 3 times and returned with strange tales from the New World and for a short spell it was even made the capital of the nation after the signing of the first Spanish Constitution in 1812.
Physically it is 260 kilometers of Atlantic coastline featuring long beaches with fine sand, many of them undeveloped and not excessively visited by tourists.

The delicious gastronomy of Cadiz is a compilation of Andalusia’s most appetizing dishes. The produce of the mountains and the sea, accompanied by outstanding wines, will transform any visit into a delicious experience. There is a wide range of fish and shellfish, including the local langoustines from Sanlúcar from which they take their name, the bienmesabe (fried marinated dogfish), the sea bream à la roteña, the gilthead sea bream baked in salt, clams with noodles, tiny shrimp omelets, and numerous other dishes which are better to try than to describe.
In the mountain area the local fare includes game casseroles (venison, wild boar, rabbit, partridge…), ajo caliente (garlic and pepper soup), Grazalema soup, kidneys with sherry, baby chorizos from El Bosque, pork loin in lard.
The pastries and sweets, infused with the region’s Arab heritage, feature unique products such as the typical tortas from Chiclana, alfajores and Christmas sweets from Medina, tocinillos de cielo from Jerez, and amarguillos from Grazalema.
Your stay in Cadiz would not be complete without a visit to one or more of the famous Jerez Bodegas, the home of the finest Sherries in Spain.

Real Club De Golf Valderrama
This world famous Valderrama championship course was listed as the number one golf course in Spain by Golf Digest Magazine (USA) in 2005. Each hole has six tees and was made with all handicappers in mind but beware the crosswinds, which make it make it tough to conquer.
Finca Cortesin Golf Club
This par 72, 7,439 yards parkland golf course was designed by Cabell Robinson and is the longest course on the coast if played from the back tees. This immaculately manicured golf course is already considered one of the best courses you could ever play on.
La Reserva Golf Club, Sotogrande
At 7,049yards this stunning par 72 links style course was designed by Cabell Robinson. This thoroughly entertaining course and fantastic layout is considered to be as good if not better than its neighbor Valderrama.
The Old Course, San Roque Club
Par 72, 7,099 yard Parkland. A long course that demands straight accurate tee shots to avoid strategically placed bunkers and deceptive water hazards.Voted #10 in Spain by Golf Digest.
Real Club de Golf Sotogrande
At 7,099 yards and Par 72, this course is considered as one of the masterpieces of Robert Trent Jones. It is a fascinating course for players of any level retaining all the natural beauty of the land on which it was built only 150 meters from the Mediterranean. Once you’ve mastered these we feel that you ought to make a trip to one or more of the following to make sure you come away withy the full flavour of what the area has to offer
Almenara Golf Course
27 holes, Par 72, 67,95 yards. Parkland with lakes. 3 fabulous loops of nine – Los Pinos, Los Lagos and Los Alcornoques – all have tight fairways, plenty of water and fast greens.
Novo Sancti Petri Golf Course
54 holes designed my the master himself, Severiano Ballesteros present a wide variety of undulating fairways, stepped greens, water hazards all mixed with the local vegetation. Max concentration and precision are required at all times but if they fail the ocean views will salvage the round.
Barcelo Montecastillo Golf
Montecastillo Golf is one of the classic golf courses in Spain. At 6,600 yards par 72 it was the first Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course in the country and is probably the most challenging course you’ll play in the region.
El Puerto Golf Course
With 18 holes and at over 6,889 yards Golf El Puerto is a charming course with a huge amount of personality, it offers degrees of difficulty that make it ideal for players of all levels.
